Ever since the early diagnoses of Prostatitis back in the 1800’s male pelvic pain has been poorly understood. The uses of leeches to bleed the gland and electrical shock therapy to the prostate have long since disappeared. Treatment protocols have thankfully changed for the better, however much of todays medical practices still remain in the dark ages. Using techniques that focus solely on the prostate when the prostate is rarely implicated in male pelvic pain is a clear reflection of the lack of understanding. Recent findings in pain science have paved the way for a far more successful model in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.
Come and join us for an exploration of this very REAL condition. Male pelvic pain is not a “figment of the imagination.” Nor is it a condition that we should “learn to live with.” It is a very REAL presentation that for millions of men is a REAL pain in the arse!
On June 29th Karl Monahan will deliver a 2 hour presentation on male pelvic pain, including Chronic Non-Bacterial Prostatitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. He will be walking patients and their partners, healthcare providers and all those interested in learning about pain from the bottom up through the most up to date science and its application in the treatment of male pelvic pain.
If you are a male pelvic pain patient or the partner of a patient then this evening is definitely for you. Karl will identify key practices for patients to manage and reduce their symptoms. Techniques that are tried and tested in his own practice – The Pelvic Pain Clinic, London. He will educate attendees on why pelvic pain hurts, why it flares up and why it is historically tricky to treat. As someone who has personally suffered with pelvic pain, Karl’s approach is empathetic and patient focused. He aims to increase patient quality of life by placing the patient as the driving force in their own recovery. Realistic, achievable and patient driven goals and targets are central to his practice.
The 2 hour presentation will have be broken into 2 bite size and manageable chunks, giving participants the chance to socialise, stretch their legs and ‘take a load off.’
