This Facebook Live presentation will introduce the Biopsychosocial Model in the treatment of male pelvic pain.
This will include Chronic Prostatitis (CP) and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS). You will learn about each of the three key domains of the model and why they can be applied for greater insight into each case. Considering the biology, the psychology and the social and even economic impacts of their condition.
The presentation will be delivered by Karl Monahan, owner of The Pelvic Pain Clinic. Karl has successfully been treating male pelvic pain since 2009. He too has suffered with pelvic pain himself giving him a unique insight into what it feels like to be both therapist and patient alike! As a result his clinical and personal experience should provide a unique and highly relevant presentation.
This talk is aimed at patients, their partners and loved ones and therapists alike. A brief introduction to male pelvic pain will be followed by a reflection of a ‘typical’ patients journey. Karl will introduce the Biopsychosocial (BPS) model and its relevance to the treatment and recovery of CP and CPPS. Karl will weave in some current research and findings to allow for a greater understanding of some of the complexities of CP and CPPS. This will include especially relevant research into:
- Prostate tenderness
- Bacteria and Prostatitis
- Type IV Prostatitis and its relevance to CP and CPPS
- Psychological and sociological factors in CP/CPPS
This will be kept light and informative, mainly for Karl’s benefit. But ultimately to make you think, explore and question current methodology. Each patient is completely unique. As a result every case is completely unique. Therefore we should consider each and every patient with a unique approach.
